Chairperson's Message
ValenWine is a wine exhibition modelling Wine for Asia brought
closer to NTU by a group of committed people. As Wine for Asia
is primarily for trade visitors, ValenWine aims to abolish this barrier,
opening up this event to all NTU staff and students allowing the
wine culture to fuse into the population. On top of that, the approach to
do so is through a series of fun activities and exciting program lineup
in conjunction with the Valentine's theme that would leave visitors
to ValenWine a particular sweetness in their hearts.
15 wine merchants and retailers will display a good mix of their wines from different vintages across the globe in ValenWine. Much can be learnt from these veterans through the upclose interaction with them which is one of the objective in organising this event. While books and materials can aid one in acquiring knowledge in the area of wine, nothing beats physically meeting wine to palate.
Lastly, on behalf of my committee, I would like to invite all staff and students to this pioneering event brought to you by the dream of 15 people that has materialised through our endurance and perseverance. Hope to see you at ValenWine!

The preparation work had not been easy considering that it is an unprecedented event and we were working with zero-budget initially. Much effort and time have been put into liaising with wine merchants and clinching sponsorship collaboration deals. Nevertheless, I have very much enjoyed working with the dynamic and proactive team and learnt a lot from each individual. This event could not have been pieced together without the time and effort each committee member has dedicated. Kudos to you guys! Blind Tasting
To ensure impartial judgment of a wine, it should be served blind — that is, without the taster(s) having seen the label or bottle shape. On a lighter note, ValenWine aims to give staff and student a test of their taste buds by recognizing and remembering the distinct taste of different wines used during our blind tasting contests. Contestants will firstly be made to taste up to 3 kinds of wine with the labels shown to them. The labels will then be covered up and contestants have to correctly identify the wines by remembering the colour, nose and taste. Winners will walk away with attractive prizes and an experience that will linger on their palates for a long time to come.
Wine tasting
Wine tasting is the sensory examination and evaluation of wine. There will be 15 wine merchants stationed around the exhibition hall carrying various wines from different terroirs and vintages. Staff and students are encouraged to visit their booths and interact with the veterans as they share their vast library of knowledge.
Love Dedications
Valentine’s Day is hardly complete without a love message. A special corner will churn the love for you by flashing your dedications on our big screen for all to see. Touch your special someone by visiting our Dedication Booth to make your love dedication to him/her on this special day.
Educational Poster
Valenwine holds great educational purpose as NTU Wine Society aims to educate to the staff and students on basic wine knowledge and the vast culture behind the grapes. Dozens of educational posters and materials have been placed in the exhibition hall to achieve the goal. Feel free to visit them and you might be surprised to find things that you did not know about before.
Capture the Love
Capture the Love is a special picture gallery of a Valentines event held at NTU on 13 and 14 February 2008.
A collaboration with NTU Wine Society and sponsored by Nokia, Capture the Love is a photography event using the Nokia N82 5-megapixel camera to snap precious moments of couples in NTU. Couples that express their love best in front of the camera will get to win fantastic prizes from Nokia.
Story Behind Every Picture
WIN! Nokia N82 mobiles phones by
submitting a picture and writing a story about it. The best picture and
story for every category will win its storyteller (that could be you!) a
brand new Nokia N82 mobile phone! This contest is open from 11 Feb 2008 till
30 March 2008. Story categories are divided to Supernatural (11 Feb to 2 Mar
2008), A Night’s Tale (3 Mar to 16 Mar 2008) and Animal Chronicles (17 Mar
to 30 Mar 2008). How you depict the category depends on your creativity and
uncanny ability to spin stories. Entries will be judged on the submitted
picture and unique storytelling that comes with it.

Prepares budgets, balance sheet and financial statements for the clubs. Ablilty to provide cost cutting suggestions yet not compromising on quality of the event is a value add to the committee.
Media and IT Officer
Able to design and manage websites. Able to source for alternative online publicity channels e.g. facebook to reach out to other target audiences such as NUS and SMU.
Business Liaison Manager
Primarily dealing with the wine merchants in negotiations. Exposure to society and experience in business talks are encouraged though not compulsory. Good communication skills are good to have.
Business Relations Manager
Primarily dealing with sponsors and getting external companies to fund the event. Exposure to society and experience in business talks are encouraged though not compulsory. Good communication skills are good to have.
Publicity Executives
To create awareness and be able to draw crowd to the event. People who are highly resourceful and able to tap into various publicity channels e.g. Channel NewsAsia, and the media are encouraged to apply. Seeking people who are able to design posters and banners for this position as well.
Event Liaison Executives
Serves 2 functions, basically to plan out the program lineup on event day itself and to help out with logistics such as decoration of event venue and planning for logistics matter. People who are creative, and have extraodinary ideas are welcomed to apply.

I extend my appreciation to Alex Seo and his ad-hoc management committee for their outstanding job in conducting the ValenWine Event.
A first-time holding of an event is the main determining factor of whether there will be a second holding. Judging from the success of the university participation, and the totally professional execution of the event, a whole bunch of faculty and students are looking forward to many years of ValenWine, including myself. I was particularly proud of the seemingly effortless and easy-going flow of the event – of course, behind the scenes, it is not that way, but giving the appearance of this calm and control means that everybody on the management team knew EXACTLY what they were required to do, and they had the complete confidence in themselves to get that work done effectively. This is the sign of a great leader of a great team, and due credit is given to Alex for this.
So, a really great job by Alex to have his management committee perform to the peak of their abilities, and a really great job by the management committee in fully supporting Alex. A great team, one and all.
Also, please pass my regards and appreciation to the vendors for participating and providing such excellent products, and my request that they return for next year.
